Our Night Sky Is Worth Protecting

Montana's dark night skies are one of our state's most extraordinary natural resources. The plate celebrates the night sky while raising awareness of dark-sky conservation, responsible outdoor lighting and the importance of reducing unnecessary light pollution.

What Your Plate Supports

Proceeds received by the Big Sky Astronomy Club will support:

  • Astronomy education – sharing the science, beauty and wonder of the universe.
  • Public observing – giving our community more chances to experience the night sky, including our public star parties.
  • Community outreach – bringing astronomy and an appreciation of dark skies to more people across Northwest Montana.

How to Get the Plate

The plate will be available beginning in January 2027. Ordering information and pricing will be posted on this page as the launch approaches.

Questions

Not at all. Whether you're an astronomer, a photographer, an outdoor enthusiast or simply someone who loves seeing the Milky Way overhead, the plate is a way to celebrate the night sky we share.

Big Sky Astronomical Society is the registered business name (DBA) of the Big Sky Astronomy Club. They are the same organization.

Visit our Dark Skies & Light Pollution page to learn about responsible outdoor lighting, or join the club and get involved.
